“It is a huge problem that women, who take up half of the global population, have not been able to show their talents and skills properly. Leveraging them goes beyond the mere issue of human rights; it all boils down to “how wisely you implement relevant policies.”

This is what Former President Tarja Halonen of Finland said in her keynote speech at the Asian Leadership Conference held by The Chosun Ilbo last year. During her two terms over 12 years, the country’s very first female president introduced various policies helping women to realize their potential.
