Press release
WASHINGTON DC—Jan. 18, 2022—Bain & Company announced today that climate accounting and clean energy expert Cate Hight will join the firm as an expert partner in its Energy & Natural Resources and Sustainability & Responsibility practices, focusing on the energy transition for clients across the Americas and other multinational corporations. As a leading thinker and practitioner in this space for more than a decade, Cate brings deep expertise in navigating the complex stakeholder and regulatory environments associated with the energy transition.
“Our clients are undertaking fundamental changes in service of the low carbon future that lies ahead, including revamping their business models—within industries and along entire value chains—and evaluating the potential game-changing technologies of tomorrow,” said Bain & Company partner Jenny Davis-Peccoud, global leader of the firm’s Sustainability & Responsibility practice. “Cate’s depth of on-the-ground experience will complement the strength of our Sustainability practice to help our clients, and society at large, meet today’s evolving climate needs.”
Cate has deep expertise in carbon accounting, industrial emissions, climate risk assessment, international negotiations, coalition building and regulatory development. She most recently served as chief operating officer of the Mission Possible Partnership, an alliance of climate leaders focused on decarbonizing heavy industry and transport. Prior to that role, she led the US Environmental Protection Agency’s work on carbon market development, where she created key greenhouse gas regulations and coauthored the annual US Inventory of GHG Emissions and Sinks.
Additionally, she led the development and deployment of MiQ, a first-of-its-kind product standard for natural gas differentiated according to its upstream methane emissions. Cate also co-authored Pricing Carbon, a book assessing the first trading period of the world’s first international carbon market: the European Union Emissions Trading System.
“Cate brings the firsthand insights needed to help our clients navigate the extraordinary opportunities and challenges presented by the energy transition,” said Bain & Company’s Joe Scalise, partner and leader of the firm’s Energy & Natural Resources practice. “Her experience working with nonprofits and policymakers will help guide our clients as they engage with a long list of increasingly important stakeholders.”
