Share your journey to Bain.

I have spent a large part of my 17+ years of consulting experience at small consulting firms, with the last 9 years prior to Bain spent running a boutique firm called Arete Advisors that I co-founded. When the Arete team was acqui-hired by Bain, it felt like the logical next step in my professional journey to join a big firm. Joining Bain would provide me with exposure to a wider variety of sectors, capabilities, geographies, and clients.

How did you know that Bain was the right company for you?

As Arete went through the initial vetting process, I had the incredible opportunity to interact with a cross-section of Bainies – both new and tenured. As a result, I was able to glean a lot of insight into the people culture at Bain and Bain's singular commitment to unlocking value for clients. Everyone we met at Bain was very friendly and welcoming, as well as deeply insightful and intelligent. This gave me comfort and made me realize that this is a group of people with whom I can envision myself working and thriving for many years to come.

Do you feel like you can do impactful work at Bain? What opportunities excite you?

We help clients solve some of their hardest and foundational problems. We do it in a short amount of time while navigating both internal and external uncertainty and ambiguity. I often liken it to fixing the airplane while it’s in flight.

What we do has a real-world impact on companies, their shareholders, their employees, and their customers. What truly excites me about Bain is that our client engagements often span an extended period of time, and it’s heartening and fulfilling to see your recommendations implemented on the ground.

My most demanding and consequently most enriching case was a digital transformation program that we ran for a large real estate developer. Real estate, as an industry, is low on the tech adoption curve, and our client had a history of failed technology implementations. We walked into a challenging client context, rolled up our sleeves, and spent the next few months working very closely with the client team to create a digital strategy closely aligned with their business outcomes. We delivered two successful pilots and developed a three-year roadmap that would improve digital maturity across the organization.
