Today on Dry Powder, we turn our attention to how Steve recruits and retains all-star players. As co-owner of the Boston Celtics and the Italian soccer club Atalanta, he knows what it takes to build a winning team.
“It’s the players that grind it out every day in a 110-game season, including the playoffs, and our job is really to support those players and get the right players around them so they can win,” Steve says. “It’s the same thing in business, the same thing in Bain Capital.”
We also discuss which leadership skills extend from the arena to the office, and what sort of talent infrastructure private equity houses will need to develop, especially as small buyout shops evolve into large multi-asset and global firms.
