As an associate consultant intern, Thomas loved that his team was composed of an international group of people who all seemed to share a common desire to do great work. “Everyone was high eagerness, high energy to have an impact,” he recalls.  

Thomas got a full-time offer as a consultant and found it was a great fit. It allowed him to apply both his engineering and MBA backgrounds and “discover my passion for the combination of strategy and finance,” he says. One of his first projects was working on a new piece of intellectual property for a finance group that became a market benchmarking tool which is now used by nine affiliated teams. 

Thomas returned to Bain and moved into a practice role focusing on capital markets—a topic he was particularly interested in. It also gave him more control over his time. “This change allowed me to develop more expertise on the topics I’m most passionate about and spend time with my daughter,” he says. After several years, he was promoted to senior practice manager. 

In 2021, Thomas was promoted to practice director of corporate strategy and finance.
