London & Munich – Nov. XX, 2019 – Michael Garstka, managing partner of Bain & Company’s UK business, and Walter Sinn, managing partner of Bain & Company's German operations have been named to Consulting magazine’s“Global Leaders in Consulting” list in the categories of Excellence in Engagement and Excellence in Influence, respectively.

“Michael and Walter have been an influential force for Bain’s growth and success in Europe and beyond,” said Domenico Azzarello, regional managing partner for Europe, the Middle East and Africa.  “It is exciting to see their contributions acknowledged by the industry and, on behalf of our Bain colleagues around the world, I’m thrilled to congratulate them both on this well-deserved recognition.”

Since taking the helm of Bain UK in 2015, Michael has led the office to double-digit revenue growth, increased penetration of the FTSE100 and in Private Equity, and has proven to be an inspiring leader. As a result of his hands-on involvement with employees, consulting team advocacy scores have risen strongly, establishing Bain London as one of the most requested locations worldwide for international transfers.

He is the author of Bain research, Is Your Supply Chain Ready for Brexit?, which has been featured in The Times, Bloomberg, and Supply Chain Management Review.  He has also written guest commentary for The Wall Street Journal and has been quoted in the Financial Times and The Economist.

Outside of his consulting role, Michael previously served on Bain’s board of directors.  He also serves as the chairman of the London Early Years Foundation (LEYF). Under his stewardship, LEYF has grown from 19 nurseries to 39 in 2019, making it one of the UK's largest childcare charities and social enterprises.

Born in Japan, Michael joined Bain London in 1994, after serving as an officer in the U.S. Air Force. He worked in the firm’s Tokyo and Singapore offices and served as head of the firm’s Telecommunications, Media & Technology practice in Asia.

Walter Sinn, who has more than 25 years of management consulting experience, has overseen the firm’s significant growth across Germany for the last five years.  During his tenure as managing partner, he has increased revenues and head count in the region.  In recent years, Bain’s employee Net Promoter Score (NPS) in Germany has significantly increased, and the German offices now rank among the top places to work within the Bain system.  The firm is also often lauded externally as one of “the best employers in Germany.”

Walter has extended the firm’s German customer base across existing businesses, such as banking, and into important new areas, including automotive. His team now works for the largest German and European banks and for the largest automobile manufacturers and suppliers in the world, many of which are headquartered in Germany.

Under Walter, Bain also expanded its physical presence, opening a fourth office in Germany in 2018, located in Berlin. The office is serves as one of two Bain Digital Discovery hubs worldwide and the European headquarters for Bain’s Advanced Digital and Product Team (ADAPT@Bain®).

Walter is a leader in the firm’s Financial Services practice with deep expertise in the banking sector and is actively engaged in client work.  In 2018, he was appointed to Bain’s worldwide board of directors, helping to set the firm’s future strategy.

Outside Bain, he helps promote a greater understanding of consulting’s role, particularly around important topics such as, the firm of the future, sustainability and Artificial Intelligence, and he regularly speaks at major management conferences, such as the Strategic Management Society Conference in Berlin. In addition, he is an active contributor to the World Economic Forum Annual Meeting in Davos.  He also frequently publishes articles in Germany’s leading media, including Manager Magazin and Handelsblatt.

In 2015, Walter, together with Manager Magazin, launched the renowned "Game Changer Award," which recognizes companies that are digital lighthouses.

Michael, Walter and their fellow honorees will be recognized at a dinner on December 5 in London.

Coverage of the honorees and the event appears in Consulting magazine’s January 2020 issue (www.consultingmag.com). Consulting is published by ALM, a global leader in specialized industry news and information.
