Sustainability is a key factor for consumers, making investors more thoughtful of their business focus and practices. Having a background in purchasing and strategic sourcing, our guest knows intentionally investing in socially conscious efforts and adhering to environmental, social and governance (ESG) standards isn’t only smart, but necessary in our clients’ portfolios.
Christophe De Vusser, partner in our Brussels office and the head of our EMEA (Europe, Middle East and Africa) private equity practice, joined Bain in 2000 after leaving his purchasing and strategic sourcing career for more opportunities. Initially seeking opportunity at Bain after earning a Master’s in Civil Engineering and a Master’s in Multilingual Business Communications from the University of Ghent, Christophe joined Proctor & Gamble (P&G) after not being selected by Bain in 1996. Years later a headhunter introduced him to another opportunity with Bain, and Christophe joining the firm shortly after. Now, Christophe excels in our private equity group (PEG), strongly focusing on ESG investing.
As part of our private equity practice, ESG drives value creation opportunities that are both financial and non-financial and is a core differentiator for investors and their portfolio companies. Knowing consumers are making purchasing decisions based on ESG characteristics, Bain consultants on private equity cases help factor sustainability into our client’s decisions and embed ESG into strategies, due diligence and post-acquisitions. Listen to Christophe’s journey to Bain and PEG as well as how he and the EMEA region are thinking about ESG and client value creation plans.
