Digitalization of retail: focus more on backend than on frontend

Last year, non-store retail continued its strong upward growth trend above 15%, while the whole retail market grew a mere 4%. However, the benefits of market growth are not being realized. Social commerce players, once a leading group of the e-commerce in the recent few years, are now shifting their direction due to mounting loss. We talked to Jichul Kang, a principal with Bain & Company, to understand where the Korean e-commerce market stands today and what the solutions would be to achieve sustainable growth.
