WHERE YOU’LL FIT WITHIN THE TEAM 

As a Senior Software Engineer, you will apply software solutions that address cutting-edge problems across various industries. You will be part of a diverse engineering team, participating in the full engineering life cycle. This includes designing, developing, optimizing, and deploying new software engineering solutions and infrastructure for the production scale of the world’s largest companies.


WHAT YOU’LL DO

  • Collaborate closely with general consulting teams to identify software solutions to client business problems, and within a cross functional product team to develop and deploy production quality code and execute those solutions
  • Provide technical guidance to external clients and internal stakeholders in Bain
  • Play a key role in designing, developing, and documenting full stack application software; evaluating third-party software products for integration as needed
  • Participate in front-end development including unit and integration frameworks, package management, and CSS preprocessor
  • Participate in the building of reusable libraries and software components to accelerate the delivery of client solutions
  • Participate in the full software development life cycle including architecture design, writing documentation and unit/integration tests, identifying issues and resolution, writing clean code, conducting code reviews, and mentoring other Engineers
  • Work closely with web designers and developers to create modern UI/UX web applications
  • Implement and promote best practices in software engineering, sharing insights with team members about theoretical and technical advancements
  • Contribute to industry-leading innovations that translate into great impact for our clients in case work
  • Stay current with emerging trends and technologies in cloud computing, data analysis, and software engineering"
  • Travel is required (30%)


ABOUT YOU

Technical Skills and Knowledge:

  • 4 years minimum experience
  • Experience (2+ years) with building full-stack applications
  • Experience (2+ years) with web technologies such as React, Angular, Vue.js, HTML and CSS
  • Experience (2+ years) with server-side development with frameworks and technologies such as Python, FastAPI, Node.js, Flask, Django, .NET Core or Java Spring Boot
  • Experience building applications with Cloud platforms and services (AWS, Azure, GCP, etc.)
  • Strong knowledge of designing API interfaces
  • Experience working with container technologies such as Docker or Kubernetes
  • Experience in engineering best practices for code quality, security, observability, logging, monitoring, and alerting
  • Knowledge of data architecture, database schema design, database scalability and SQL
  • Strong computer science fundaments in data structures, algorithms, automated testing, object-oriented programming, performance complexity, and implications of computer architecture on software performance
  • Awareness of agile development methodologies and principles


Interpersonal Skills:

  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, including the ability to explain and discuss technicalities of solutions, algorithms and techniques with colleagues and clients from other disciplines
  • Curiosity, proactivity and critical thinking
  • Ability to collaborate with people at all levels and with multi-office/region teams "
  • Relevant academic or industry experience in web development, programming languages, version control, software design pattern, infrastructure and deployment, integration and unit testing implementation


Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or a related technical field
  • Master’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related technical field is a plus

U.S. COMPENSATION INFORMATION

Compensation for this role includes base salary, annual discretionary performance bonus, 401(k) plan with an annual employer contribution based on years of service and Bain’s best in class benefits package (details listed below).


Some local governments in the United States require a good-faith, reasonable salary range be included in job postings for open roles. The estimated annualized compensation for this role is as follows:


In New York City, CA, Washington State, Washington D.C.  the good-faith, reasonable annualized full-time salary range for this role is between $122,500 - $150,000; placement within this range will vary based on several factors including, but not limited to experience, education, licensure/certifications, training and skill level


For all other locations, the good-faith, reasonable annualized full-time salary range for this role is commensurate with competitive geographic market rates for this role and will vary based on several factors including, but not limited to experience, education, licensure/certifications, training and skill level.


  • Annual discretionary performance bonus
  • This role may also be eligible for other elements of discretionary compensation
