Sumner Makin is a member of our Advanced Analytics (AA) practice. He is the global product owner of our proprietary Bain Promotions solution.

Sumner's work centres on advanced analytics and artificial intelligence strategy, as well as delivering AA use cases in a highly practical and pragmatic way, especially in pricing and promotions. His recent cases have included the grocery, retail and technology spheres.

His preeminent client achievements include:

  • Developing the analytics strategy for one of the world's largest consumer products companies;
  • Delivering B2C pricing and promotion solutions for a global technology giant; and
  • Building promotional tools for a major U.S. grocer.

Sumner joined us in 2017, having over 15 years of experience with several other elite firms. He was also previously a postdoctoral research fellow, where he developed computer models of an Alzheimer's disease protein.

He holds a Ph.D., M. Sci. and M.A. in Physics from the University of Cambridge.
