By 2030, the demand for oil could reach its peak, shale oil in the United States could turn crude oil into a leading source, and shale gas or low-cost shale gas from the United States is likely to interrupt world trade flows. In turn, the generation of solar and wind energy could triple by 2030, but still represent less than 20% of global energy generation. These are some of the possible scenarios identified by the latest Bain & Company study.
