Melissa Artabane, Executive Vice President of Global Diversity, Equity and Inclusion, was instilled with an unshakeable sense of resilience at an early age. Born partially deaf, she learned to navigate not only her unique world view, but school experiences due her family relocating throughout her childhood. While she landed many places before turning eighteen, Melissa recalls Georgetown as the first place she felt she truly belonged. This sense of belonging was significant enough to influence her decision to pursue her bachelor’s in finance at the university on a track and field scholarship.
Deciding between investment banking and consulting, Melissa was drawn to Bain’s inclusive culture during the interview process, prompting her decision to join the firm as an associate consultant. After a few years, she transitioned into an internal role to focus on supporting our people while still allowing her to work with the mentors she had during her client-facing roles. Melissa is now as our Executive Vice President of Global Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion, committing to foster environments of belonging, support, and trust at the firm. She’s fueled by the desire to ensure all Bainies feel the distinct acceptance that makes her feel deeply connected to people at Bain.
As we continue our series on our Operating Principles, Melissa joins us to discuss the principle, “Diverse Teams, One Bain.” Knowing firsthand the challenges faced in fostering an inclusive culture where all team members can contribute their best work, Melissa shares why this principle is the foundation of making this ambition come to fruition. Listen to Melissa’s journey to Bain, and how she’s implementing “Diverse Teams, One Bain” into her day-to-day at the firm.
