David Chao

David Chao is a member of our Private Equity, Consumer Products, and Retail practices.

David specializes in due diligence, having led numerous diligence projects across key consumer segments, including grocery, convenience, restaurants, e-commerce, beauty, and many others. His work centers on delivering strategic insights that drive investment success and portfolio growth for leading private equity clients. As a recognized authority within Bain's due diligence practice, David brings deep sector knowledge and a data-driven approach to asset evaluation, enabling clients to make confident investment decisions in dynamic markets.

David is also actively involved in the firm’s diversity and inclusion efforts as a leader in Chicago’s Asian at Bain group, fostering a supportive community and driving initiatives that celebrate diversity within the firm.

Before joining Bain, David began his career as an engineer at a major technology firm, where he developed a strong analytical foundation and a commitment to operational excellence. He holds a Bachelor of Science in Industrial Engineering from Columbia University and an MBA from Columbia Business School.
