The predecessor of an electronic lighting manufacturer established by renowned inventor Thomas Edison in 1878, GE is the only company listed in the Dow Jones Industrial Index today that was also included in the original index in 1896. Experts say its corporate culture of selecting and attracting wide-ranging talents has been one of the secrets to GE’s long-running success. Women now account for 35% of its 300,000 employees worldwide—and 24% of its managers or higher.
