Why did you choose consulting? And why at Bain?

Throughout my time at university, I learned some important lessons about myself. Firstly, I discovered that I wanted to explore working in a range of different industries while always tackling interesting problems. Secondly, I realized that I wanted to be challenged and given opportunities to continuously learn from like-minded people.

Choosing to start my career in consulting has checked all of these boxes. Over the past two years, I've had the opportunity to work on a variety of interesting problems for Australia's leading businesses. I knew that Bain was the right place for me once I realized that the phrase "A Bainie never lets another Bainie fail" is truly embodied by every person who works here. I’m grateful to work alongside and learn from such smart, supportive, and genuine people.

Tell us about your journey since joining us.

Since joining Bain, I have worked on a variety of interesting problems for two of our key Australian clients in the Advanced Manufacturing & Services and Consumer Products industries.

Everyone’s journey at Bain is different. Some people work on shorter engagements across various industries. Personally, I have enjoyed developing subject matter expertise and building deep client relationships through my longer case experiences.

What has been a key highlight of your time at Bain?

A key highlight of my time at Bain has been witnessing firsthand how the firm invests in its people. At the beginning of my first year, I was fortunate to attend global training in Cascais, Portugal. It was a truly unforgettable experience to be surrounded by other ACs from nearly every continent (pending an office in Antarctica).

Moreover, DEI affinity groups such as Asians at Bain and Women at Bain provide an extra layer of community and support in the workplace. I have loved connecting with other members of these groups over meals and engaging activities such as dumpling-making and ring-making classes.

Is there anything you wish you knew before applying?

I wish I had known more about the opportunities Bain offers outside of regular case work before applying. It was only through meeting and chatting with Bainies throughout the interview process that I learned how diverse everyone's experiences were. I was excited to discover that Bain provides opportunities to travel for client case work, undertake short- and long-term transfers to overseas Bain offices, receive sponsorship to complete an MBA, and participate in externships where you can work short-term for an organization of your choice.

Any advice for someone considering applying?

Every firm has its own unique culture. I encourage anyone considering applying to take the time to understand what sets Bain apart from other companies.

Moreover, if you're thinking about applying, I’d say go for it! Remember, Bain isn’t looking for a cookie-cutter consultant. The best teams consist of individuals from diverse backgrounds who share a common desire to learn and drive toward the best client outcomes.
