Alexandre Bagnoud, a senior associate consultant in Zurich, offers a candid look into his consulting career and his experiences with Pride at Bain. Learn about his journey to Bain, his commitment to fostering inclusivity, and the passions that drive him.

1. How did your consulting journey begin?

I always wanted to work in the consulting industry. As a student, I attended two recruiting events organized by the members of Pride at Bain in Zurich. The Bainies I met there were incredibly fun, open, and down to earth, which resonated deeply with me. The people were a significant factor in my decision to choose Bain over other consulting firms when I started to look for a job.

2. Why did you join Pride at Bain?

As soon as I joined the company, I immediately signed up as a member of Pride at Bain. I now co-organize recruiting events for LGBTQ+ students. I want them to experience how inclusive Bain is as a workplace.

This involvement is my way of giving back the opportunity to meet the Pride at Bain community that I valued so much as a student. It is also very important to me to help the affinity group grow at Bain, which is why I co-organize some Pride at Bain gatherings for Bainies.

3. How do you celebrate Pride Month at Bain?

One of my favorite events at the Zurich office is our Pride Month celebration, featuring a brunch on the rooftop of the office before joining the Zurich Pride parade together. This event is open to all Bainies and their families. During this celebration, we not only honor LGBTQ+ Pride, but also appreciate the opportunity to work at a company where we can be our true selves, feel included, and fully thrive.

Pride Month has always had a special meaning for me. Each June, I celebrate the privilege of living in a country where I can be my true self, regardless of whom I love. I take a moment to appreciate my fulfilling job and the inclusive workplace where I'm embraced for who I am. June is also a time for reflection on where we stand as the LGBTQ+ community, and what can be done to continue building a more inclusive society globally.

4. What are your hobbies outside of work?

On a personal level, several hobbies profoundly interest me and help me thrive. One is going to the gym in the morning. It is very important for my well-being and a core element of my work-life balance. It helps me to clear my mind, get energy for the day, and release stress.

Another hobby that inspires me is going to the theatre or opera house. In a world where everything is becoming increasingly digital, I value the connection with the physical arts. Watching a ballet or a play always leaves me with lasting memories.

Travelling is another passion that greatly enriches my life. I often take solo trips to nearby European cities. It is my way not only to discover new places but also to reconnect with myself and reflect on life.

5. What advice do you have for supporting the LGBTQ+ community?

If I were to give a piece of advice on how to support the LGBTQ+ community, I would say that to be an ally for the LGBTQ+ community, it is important to be nonjudgmental, appreciate the diversity of people’s life experiences, and support everyone’s right to live as their true selves. For instance, instead of asking if one has a wife or a husband, it is more inclusive to ask if they have a partner. Such tiny efforts can make a big difference.
