Leading retail marketing executive, Brian Dennehy, rejoins Bain & Company to help transform companies through marketing and digital strategies

LEADING RETAIL MARKETING EXECUTIVE, BRIAN DENNEHY, REJOINS BAIN & COMPANY TO HELP TRANSFORM COMPANIES THROUGH MARKETING AND DIGITAL STRATEGIES

New York – Feb. 21, 2017 – Brian Dennehy, who was most recently chief marketing executive at Nordstrom, Inc., has rejoined Bain & Company as expert vice president, marketing. In his new role, he will be responsible for working with the firm’s new and existing clients to transform their organizations through cutting-edge marketing and digital strategies. Dennehy will be based in Bain’s San Francisco office.

Dennehy will be an integral part of Bain’s Customer Strategy & Marketing Practice, which is helping to change the way corporate CMOs approach marketing in the digital age. As demand for expertise in marketing – especially digital marketing – has increased across every industry sector and companies begin to understand the strategic business benefits of this capability, Bain is working with leading marketers to hone and develop critical skills, such as experimental design and agility, enabling marketing teams to bring these capabilities in-house. With these skills embedded in their firms, marketing executives will be better able to make more informed decisions faster than their competition, integrate marketing with other business functions, and bridge the gap between data-driven and creative marketing.

“Today, the competitive pace and need to wring maximum value from marketing activities requires a much faster response and new, in-house marketing capabilities,” said Laura Beaudin, who leads Bain’s Marketing Excellence Practice. “Brian is a pioneer in digital and performance marketing with a proven track record for leading transformations across multiple industries. He will be an invaluable resource to clients seeking to achieve break-out modern marketing.”

Dennehy, a Bain alumni, has nearly two decades of experience in driving large-scale change – from multi-channel to e-commerce, traditional media to online, and national to international markets. He is also an expert in the use of data and the implementation of marketing technologies to solve complex business problems and increase shareholder value.

At Bain, Dennehy will help build upon the firm’s Marketing Excellence capabilities globally, working with clients in the areas of test and learn, marketing mix optimization, marketing org design, marketing strategy and execution, and capability building. He will also support Bain teams to ensure they have tactics and tools their clients need to leapfrog their competition and effectively engage their target audiences throughout their marketing transformation.

“It is thrilling to be back at Bain,” said Dennehy. “I’m looking forward to working with an established team of marketing experts to help our clients clearly define their marketing strategy and growth challenges, reinvent their marketing organizations, and optimize their marketing spend.”

During the course of his career, Dennehy has held senior marketing roles at Nordstrom, Silicon Valley Bank and Intuit. He also led business intelligence, data and analytics at Intuit, designing strategies that leveraged the company’s unique data assets.

He first joined Bain in 1999 as a consultant in the firm’s Los Angeles office.

Dennehy is a frequent speaker on marketing, big data/analytics, and customer experience and has published research on media and entertainment in Asia.

He sits on the board of the University of Washington’s School of Medicine and its Center for Sales and Marketing Strategy.

Dennehy earned his Ph.D. in international relations from the University of Southern California and graduated with a master’s degree in diplomatic history from Georgetown University. He holds a B.A. from the University of Washington.
