Julian Critchlow is a partner in Bain & Company's London office, and is the sector leader of the firm's Global Utilities & Alternative Energy practice within Bain's Industrial Goods & Services practice. He is also an active contributor to Bain's Mergers & Acquisitions, Strategy and Organization practices.
Julian has nearly 30 years of consulting experience. He joined Bain in 1987 as an associate consultant and has worked with clients across the globe from the firm's London and San Francisco offices.
Julian has particular experience working across all elements of the energy value chain from gas exploration and production, electricity generation, wholesale and trading and retail supply. He has led Bain's work with the World Economic Forum on the Future of Electricity and is a member of the Global Future Council on the Future of Energy. His expertise extends across strategic issues such as global gas market dynamics, the investment priorities in the digital and distributed electricity system and the evolving nuclear fuel cycle. He is the author of a range of articles on trends in the utilities sector and has been quoted in leading publications such as the Financial Times, Bloomberg Businessweek and the Wall Street Journal.
Prior to joining Bain, Julian obtained an MBA, with distinction, from the Wharton School of Business and received an MEng in chemical engineering from Cambridge University. He also worked with Exxon and ICI as a Chemical Engineer.
Julian is on the National Board of Employment for Excluded Group initiative of Business in The Community and was Vice Chairman of the Channel Swimming & Piloting Federation.
