James Root is a partner in Bain & Company’s Hong Kong office. He heads Bain's Organization practice for Asia-Pacific and is a leader in the Consumer Products practice. He previously served as the managing partner of Bain's New York office.
James has more than 25 years consulting experience in Asia, North America and Europe. He specializes in working on corporate transformations involving strategy, operational improvement and organizational effectiveness.
James has published extensively in the business press, from academic journals to The Wall Street Journal, on topics of organization, international expansion and growth strategy. He has been a guest on television and radio including CNN, CNBC and Bloomberg TV. He is also an adjunct professor on the faculty of the Kellogg-HKUST business school.
James earned a BA in Classics from Cambridge University where he was a Scholar of his college, and holds an MBA from London Business School.
